Amendment 283, a measure to repeal the constitutional right to abortion in Colorado, failed to gather enough signatures to appear on the 2026 ballot. Colorado's reproductive rights group Cobalt reports increased demand for abortion care in the state, including from out-of-state patients, as other states enact more restrictive abortion laws.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill expanding the state's safe haven law, allowing parents up to 30 days after a newborn's birth to legally surrender the child, up from the previous 72-hour limit. The law, effective in August, permits safe surrender at locations like fire stations and hospitals, with data showing eight newborns were surrendered under the law in Colorado last year.

Robert Dear, who was charged with killing three people and wounding several others in the 2015 Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting, died in federal custody on November 22, 2025, from natural causes. Dear was never tried due to being found incompetent to stand trial, and his death comes as the case marks its 10-year anniversary in Colorado Springs.
